James W. Hutchin James W. Hutchin, CPCU, President and Founder
Jim is a Professor at the Fox School of Business, working in both the Strategic General Management and Risk Management Departments, and founded Alba in 2001. He recognized that the insurance segment had a real need for strategic consulting and training services that were best delivered by a group of experienced and qualified professionals. He used his knowledge of the industry to assemble and leverage a unique group of industry professionals who can deliver these services to clients. His particular areas of expertise include executive management, strategic planning and new product development.

Jim’s research focuses on the alignment of interests between the insurance industry and sustainability, and he was selected by UNEP FI as Lead Academic for a groundbreaking report on the state of sustainability in the global insurance industry. He also serves as a senior academic in the Willis Research Network.

Mr. Hutchin has over 30 years of management experience, including as a CEO, in the insurance industry in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the United States.  Working with his partners in Alba Advisors, LLC, he has led the training of more than 1200 executives in the global insurance industry. In 2010, he was named “Outstanding Faculty” of the year by the IMBA cohort at the Fox School.

Mr. Hutchin’s undergraduate work was completed at Randolph-Macon College in Virginia, with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Asian studies. He earned a Masters of International Management, with honors, at the American Graduate School of International Management (“Thunderbird”). He also attended “The Executive Program” at the Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia. His Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (“CPCU”) designation was obtained in 1981, and he was a founding member of the Society of CPCU’s International Section’s Governing Committee.

Jim has been a guest lecturer/speaker at Harvard, The Wharton School, the American Graduate School of International Management (“Thunderbird”), Swarthmore College, and the Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia. He has also addressed audiences on the subject of Globalization at numerous insurance industry seminars and conferences, including ”I-Days” in Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Memphis, Regional and National CPCU and Risk and Insurance Management Society meetings, as well as numerous conferences in Europe and Asia. He is a Senior Academic in the Willis Research Network.

With a penchant for writing, he has had thirty articles and/or interviews appear in various prominent publications.

Gary L. German Gary L. German, CPA, Managing Director
Gary provides Alba with a unique blend of technical knowledge and practical application in the areas of accounting and finance. His particular areas of expertise include fraud investigation, forensic accounting, auditing, financial analysis, cost efficiencies and operating systems.

Gary’s undergraduate work was completed at Wake Forest University, with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He joined the firm of Price Waterhouse & Co. and, as an auditor, gained broad exposure to a number of industries. He has over 25 years experience in the insurance segment and has held senior management positions with some of the most respected names in the industry. He has worked hand-in-hand with the North Carolina Department of Insurance and the Secret Service as the lead forensic investigator in major fraud investigations. He’s also worked with major insurance companies as lead forensic investigator on suspicious or fraudulent insurance claims.

He served as clinical professor in the International MBA program at the Fox School of Business - Temple University. He has also taught in an executive ed program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

An accomplished public speaker and presenter, his audiences include; The Financial Executives’ Institute, Institute of Management Accountants, American Association of Managing General Agents, NC Association of CPAs, SC Association of CPAs, NC Insurance Crime Information Exchange, U.S. Secret Service and the Federal Reserve.

He is a licensed CPA in North Carolina.
